Hello! I’m Jimmy.
Jim is my dad.
I’m a freelance science writer and editor looking for new opportunities. I’ve written pieces on science history, renewable energy, biomedicine, and native language for a variety of small magazines and blogs. My editing experience includes academic articles and books across disciplines. If you think there’s a project we could work on together, please reach out!
I am also a full-time lecturer at the University of Michigan’s Sweetland Center for Writing. There, I do two main things. First, I teach. My courses are process-focused seminars that range in scope from general, introductory writing to upper-level scientific writing. Second, I work with student writers directly in face-to-face consultations on any project they’re working on. It’s a fast-paced, multidisciplinary, and multimodal job.
I am very involved in the higher education labor movement. I am a proud and ardent union supporter and activist in my AFT-MI local, LEO.
I take a serious interest in tabletop gaming as a creative outlet and a way to build compositional skill. This interest has led me on some adventures that I hope to debut here someday soon.
